Meet The Cones
The Cones and their friends
The Cones family grows as each story is launched and there are many, many more to come.
Conestance
Conestance is bubbly, pretty, vain, tending towards selfishness; has a paddy and will stamp her foot when displeased. Hair, make-up, handbag must be perfect – a material girl.
She likes her friends (especially Cone-Vera) but is particular about who is allowed into her circle. Conestance is fun to be around and loyal to her group. She defends her friends if one is picked on or disadvantaged.
Conestance can be timid when presented with something different but when she lets her inhibitions go can enjoy adventures. She hates dirt and mess and can be very disdainful about what she considers to be ‘boys’ things’ such as mud, boisterous games, bad behaviour, and danger for its own sake (she might break a nail!).
Conestance is well aware that Conerad has a bit of a thing for her as secretly she feels the same but will never let him know!

Conerad
Conerad is very easy-going, even-tempered, sunny side up, boy-next-door type. Very come-day-go-day, pleasant little guy but not necessarily the smartest Cone on the road.
Conerad is one of nature’s sheep! He is easily led and influenced by stronger characters, often to his own detriment. He tends to follow where Conen leads and can get overlooked when his brighter mate is around. However, if his principles are violated, the worm will turn. He doesn’t think a lot or deeply about anything and is silenced when Cone-Vera corrects the Cones and is easily cowed. He has bravado but only when he can hide behind Conen, who he hero-worships. He likes the idea of adventure but usually as a follower, not an instigator.
Conerad has a bit of a ‘thing’ for Conestance but he admires her from afar as he thinks she doesn’t take much notice of him.

Conen
Conen can be a show-off, cheeky and disrespectful. He is impetuous, doesn’t see danger, or chooses to ignore it. He is inconsiderate, dismissive and insensitive about other points of view until corrected.
He loves talking about his plans and is interested in the world around, particularly if it offers opportunity for adventure. He can be very selfish when pursuing his own goals, but has a conscience, particularly when it is pricked and he realizes that his friends do matter. He basks in the light of Conerad’s hero worship but bosses him shamelessly.
His endearing and redeeming qualities are loyalty to his friends and willingness to say sorry – which he usually does in threes! (sorry sorry sorry)
Conen deals with challenges by steam-rolling and blustering, but when Cone-Vera pins him down to a discussion, he is quite capable of employing his own version of logic.

Cone-Vera
Cone-Vera is the brains behind the group is well-read, self-educated, and observant and knows much about life.
Sometimes she may have a sharp tongue but inside she is pure gold and totally loyal and committed to her friends, who she loves dearly. She will see them through any situation and is their guide and mentor.
Cone Vera is short-sighted, wears glasses, is not girly like Conestance, and is very practical.
Not into hair, make-up and handbags, she will occasionally indulge Conestance by showing a superficial interest. She loves Conestance and treats her like a younger sister who will one day grow up!

Conecourse Conetroller
Conecourse Conetroller is very serious-minded with a great sense of duty and his own importance. Conecourse Conetroller is in charge of a very large station and is most particular to ensure that all Cones behave properly and keep safe both on and off trains.

Conefluence
Conefluence is in charge of keeping everyone safe when around water. He wants everyone to have a great time, but beware of nesting swans and giant hogweed and whatever you do, do not throw litter into the river.

Conestructor
Conestructor works hard in the building site and is most particular to point out areas of danger for adventurous young Cones. They have a good time and learn a lot but come to the conclusion that you must never play in a building site – it’s too dangerous.

Conecern
Our four young Cones are fascinated by human behaviour so when they get the chance to explore the Children’s Hospital under the guidance of Conecern, they can’t resist it. She knows a lot about the hospital and shows them the different ways children go into hospital and they discover you can’t get blood out of a Cone!

Conetractor
This lady is an Engineer, she shows the Cones how important it is to obey road signs, particularly when there are road works being carried out. She teaches them to respect the workers and shows them what happens to a bad driver who breaks the rules.

Coneservator
Coneservator comes all the way across the ocean from America and he is very much into conservation. He shows the four friends around an electricity producing power station and explains about biomass. He loves nature and takes them next door to a nature reserve to show the Cones the importance of looking after the natural environment.

New Moon
The magic dust that New Moon sprinkles brought the Cones to life and she is often at hand in an emergency.

Wise Owl
Wise Owl is always on the lookout for danger.

Police Car
Friendly Police Car looks out for the Cones to make sure they are safe.

Cone Collector
Cone Collector is the baddy in the series. He is a nasty, mean and very grumpy truck. He looks for Cones which are not where they should be and stacks them on the back of his truck. Cones don’t like to be stacked because they can’t woggle off and have adventures.

Peeping Cone
Look carefully at the illustrations in each book and you may find Peeping Cone hiding in some unusual places.
